Joe Torosian

Good Afternoon!

Writing from new digs…don’t quite feel it yet, we’ll see.

Really sorry to see Chris Long leave Hoover…The record, of course, doesn’t indicate it but there was positive energy in the Tornado program…

The first player I thought about was junior-to-be Jesse Pina, a Long find in P.E. Class, who has a chance to be something special as a receiver in the Pacific League.

The cynical side of me says let the cherry-picking begin…but that’s just me being negative again…

So far so good…seems to be no lingering after effects in M-Town on my assertion that Covina is the team to beat in the Mid-Valley…

Jihad Vercher…Salesian…yeah, that dude’s alright…

Waiting for word from Village Christian on the back channel stuff in regards to the Crusaders, now under Jay Schroeder, going to a spread offense…If VC wants to deal its 2,000-yard back, Amjed Aboul-hosn, for a few freshman and an eighth grader to be named later I can think of a few teams that might be interested.

I’d say Arroyo might be in the market for a running back, but His Arroyo Baldness is really believing in Pete Aholoka this fall…

Behind the proverbial 8-ball is Joel Sanchez at El Monte, the departing Michael Jimenez was such a driving force for the Lions attack in 2010…The leading returning rusher for the Lions is junior-to-be Bryan Luevano: 12 carries, 54 yards.

Matt Eddy, statistically, figures to be the Panther tailback replacing Matt Fregoso. Fregoso racked up 2,458 yards, Eddy collected 180…

Last Note Rosemead: The Panthers have had a 1,000 yard back every year of the 21st. Century…

I like South El Monte’s opener with Ganesha, should be a good starter game for new HC Ibis Aguilar…On the other hand I do worry about playing a physical Bell Gardens team in Week Five…

Whether primed to rebuild or to explode, BG is always physical…BG equals physical…Physical equals BG…and Lancers inside linebacker Thomas Guevara falls into the beast category…

Note to Fans: As per Bad News Barker the term; “beast” will soon be on the Mid Valley Sports banned list…So take advantage of it while you can…

But speaking of beasts that is the term that would best describe returning Whittier Christian linebacker Daniel “Don’t Call Me Tim” Abernathy, who is already getting soft interest from some high-end schools…

Black helmets at USC? Really? Actually we’re thinking about re-branding ourselves in Week Seven this fall as the Mid Valley Tribune…that night every staffer will attend a football game wearing some old school Jordache Jeans in honor of Robledo…

…Even Big Tony…

Is it safe to say West Covina’s Aaron Salgado might be the most overlooked running back in the Southeast Division? But some would argue Aaron Brown at Mayfair…Don’t know…we’ll see…

Amazing what age can do to you…But GO CELTICS!

I was asked a question that took me back about 30 years… “Joe, do you think there will be sports in Heaven?”

What do you think?
