Muir Breaks Through

By Josh Ouellette(Pasadena) Muir (1-2, 1-5 overall) won its first game Friday Night at home, defeating Arcadia (1-2, 1-4-1) 27-7 in Pacific league action.

In a back and forth game Muir took advantage of Arcadia mistakes. The Apaches were able to move the ball, but five interceptions, three of which were near the red zone, killed all the advances.

Muir quarterback Jerron Williams was able to control the game by generating the Mustangs only two offensive touchdowns. The first on a one yard sneak that broke the plain, and the second on a 13 yard jump ball pass to Ormani Duncan in the corner of the end zone.

Arcadia was able to march down the field the whole game with a combination of quick passes by Myles Carr and hard runs by Rodney Arnett who finished the evening with 32 carries for 127 yards. But, again, they floundered in the red zone.

The Apaches managed to take their opening drive of the second half 55 yards for a touchdown  utilizing the hard nose running of Arnett, who capped it off with a one yard surge to paydirt.

The Mustangs other two touchdowns came on a pair of pick sixes. The first was returned 77 yards by Sharmark Wright, and the other by Kevin Seymour for 80 yards. The latter proved to be the dagger in the heart of the Apaches.

Both teams continue league play next week with Muir stays at home to take on Crescenta Valley, and the Apaches travel back home to play Burroughs.
