The Peterson Principle: 5/26/14

Jorge Reyna is still at Pasadena and will be the quarterback for the Bulldogs in the fall. He didn’t play in the throw with Marshall on Saturday fueling speculation that the Downey transfer had transferred again.

“I was calling plays for my offense!” Reyna said.

Reyna also confirmed that Pasadena is hosting a passing tournament on June 6.

Marshall Head Coach Jim Arellanes was impressed with what he saw. “They have some dudes!” He said. “They’re going to be good…especially with him.”

The Bulldogs should be better than last year when they finished with a forgettable record of 1-9 – their only win being 33-13 over Hoover on October 11. They might not contend for the league title in the tough Pacific but with Reyna, receiver Tyrek Adams, and several other skill position players back as well as returners on the lines, they should make some noise.

Pasadena opens at South El Monte on August 29 and travels to Artesia on September 12.

So you either believe former Diamond Ranch HC Roddy Layton or former Diamond Ranch JV assistant Matt Johnson, who is now at Diamond Bar. Now we just wait for the “HUDLgate” investigation to play out.

The question is doesn’t everybody have access to HUDL anyway? I’ve had coaches send me highlight videos of players on HUDL and when I access it I come across every game played during that particular season. If you watch film or tape of a team through out the year don’t get you an idea of their tendencies and what they’re going to do in certain situations? I don’t know how the investigation will play out but it seems likes a whole lot of noise about a very minor issue.

Montebello has beefed up its schedule for this year. After beating Northview in the first round of the playoffs last year, head coach Pete Gonzalez feels his team is learning how to compete. The Oilers, who were eliminated in the second round last year by Monrovia, have Diamond Bar, Northview, Arroyo, El Rancho and  Paraclete on the non league agenda.

“We want to feel like we can go out on the field and compete with anybody,” Montebello HC Pete Gonzalez told Mid-Valley staffer Duane Barker. “I think beating Northview last year helped with that. It didn’t used to be that way.”

Speaking of Arellanes, he showed up at the LA KISS game Sunday to see the KISS get plastered 70-25, their seventh straight loss. Things are so bad that the KISS scheduled open tryouts June 1 at Whittier College prompting Arellanes to consider a return to the Arena Football League, Arellanes previously played for the Carolina Cobras and the Florida Bobcats.

“Yeah but it’s too bad that my daughter and son both looked at me like I’m crazy and laughed when I told them,” Arellanes said.

Go for it coach. The current quarterback is 43.

That’s my principle.

i dont think your understanding what teams do with HUDL. teams will put playbooks for each game on hudl. game plans for each game, practice film for each game on hudl (that means when it was DR VS. DB week, DB recorded their practice for that week then posted it on hudl for coaches/players to watch and fix their mistakes). how could yo think that wouldnt be an advantage to see what the other team is practicing to do against you? formation wise, motions, packages…etc. defensively you get to see what blitzes, stunts, fronts they plan to run. should i go on??????

    Tim,
Really? Okay Layton is your boy. But to not only say no big deal, but then write it? If a coach knows how a team is adjusting or preparing for him, them he can use that knowledge to prepare before game time.
If, Layton did what he is being accused of he is a cheater. Hudl accounts are password protected for a reason. Scripts, practice film, and game plans are in his account. If you access another schools account you are a cheater.
As for you receiving access to a teams Account, the assumption is you are a professional that will not divulge the PW or info contained within.
To Joe T, yes there should be accounts for you
From T. Peterson: It’s hilarious. I keep receiving all of these messages saying I said it was no big deal and that’s not even what I wrote. Where did I write that it’s no big deal? My point was that everybody has access to HUDL including me when coaches send me highlight reels. I understand that they’re nowhere close to what is actually on HUDL but it’s still film on teams- which is what all the coaches see. Again I never said it was no big deal if he hacked in. And I still maintain it’s a whole lotta noise. Anyway a couple of area coaches set me straight on Tuesdsay. I’ll post their thoughts this week. Thanks for the thoughts. Good stuff.

So are aware that HUDL does not just contain footage of games? Most coaches use it to show their offensive, defensive, and special teams game plans, drawn out in PowerPoint format, directing individual players to preform tasks that they may or may not normally do.
They have access to players email accounts, phone numbers etc., many more functions

When most teams exchange films, most teams usually exchange 2 films that are not cut, all the plays are required to be therefrom the other team, and it is mutual exchanged, one coach cannot get the film unless the other coach agrees to the terms. They are in raw footage!

For the team and coaches the plays for Offense and Defense are spelled out on a spread sheet, numbered in sequential order, they may change the order on the screen, add graphics for coaches to view and know what play is being called and being run.

So Tim, if you would like a lesson on what HUDL really does, contact me and I’ll take you on a tour or I will get the HUDL team to take you on a tour. So then, you let me know what the Big Deal is. I would be outraged if it happened to me!

Oh by the way, Can I have your Social Security Number, I see your credit has a slight problem, there might be trouble and I would be glad to… help you, with the problems. L.M.A.O.!
From T. Peterson: Good points. Still don’t think it made a difference in the outcome but good points.

Regarding Reyna, he is capable of beating both SEM and Artesia with his legs alone. That will give them a 2-0 start and a better record than all of last year after only two games. Maxpreps isn’t showing their entire schedule but if they play Cathedral like they have in years past, that will be a true test of how good they will be this year.

Regarding Gonzalez, I wish he would schedule the school he won a CIF title for in 2007. St. Paul! I think Montebello could take it to the former Angeles League power house.
