(Montebello) – Enrique Lozano booted a 35-yard field goal in overtime to give Montebello a 31-28 win over Bell Gardens Friday night. Bell Gardens got the ball first in OT but failed to convert a field goal. On third and two Oiler head coach Pete Gonzales called on Lozano and he delivered with the winning kick in a rainstorm.  

Lozano, who is getting Division 1 looks, also kicked a 51-yard field goal on Montebello’s first possession for a 3-0 lead. His boot proved to be the difference as he also nailed one from 28 yards out with two seconds left in the second quarter. Montebello couldn’t get much going however in the first half trailing 14-6at the half.

Montebello came out smoking in the second half scoring in its first two possessions. The Oilers also led 28-21 in the fourth before BG rallied to tie and force overtime.

***Jordan Preciado gave Bell Gardens a 7-3 lead on a four-yard run early in the second quarter. An Oiler fumble led to another BG score- a 19-yard bolt up the middle by Erick Galicia with 1:19 left to give BG a 14-3 advantage.

***Josiah Quiroga scored on a three- yard run for Montebello to open the third quarter and Andy Brown ran in the two-point conversion to tie the game.

***Oiler quarterback Ryan Rivera rushed for 110 yards on 14 carries including a 39-yard jaunt that set up the first score in the second half.

***Isaac Mendibles ran for 96 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries for Montebello. He also caught a swing pass from Rivera for 58 yards that led to the go ahead touchdown.

***Manuel Contreras’ 45-yard TD reception from Jordan Cardenas got the Lancers even at 21.

***Charlie Zuniga hauled in a 21-yard pass from Rivera to give the Oilers the lead at 28-21 early in the fourth.

***”Yeah we had a had a little talk at halftime,” said Montebello DC Brian Zavala when asked the difference between the first and second halves.

***Cardenas threw for 130 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 40 yards for BG.

***Montebello improved to 4-0 in league with the victory and clinched the Almont title. The Oilers have Alhambra next week.

***BG fell to 3-1 in the Almont but has a hold on second place.
