“The pictures told it all. There isn’t any way I could improve on the picture. What a story. The squeeze in the ninth. The Dodgers score four times and pull it out and beat the Braves, 7 to 6. They show the squeeze on Diamond Vision and the crowd, EUPHORIC in its joy, roars again.”—Vin Scully, September 11, 1983, after R.J. Reynolds squeezed in Pedro Guerrero with the game winning run.

Kick it!

Right off the Top: I’m good for an anti-Wave/beach ball rant every baseball season. I’m also good for an anti-alcohol at the ballparks rant every other season, but this might be the first time I’m going to complain about the Gatorade bath after a game.

Okay, it’s stupid…it’s old…it’s played out…can’t they come up with something new? I mean, its been around for thirty years for goodness sake. Believe it or not its actually been around longer than Iran nuke talks, it should be retired.

Give me something fresh…something unique…like…oh I don’t know…Nothing!

Okay, that might have been a little excessive, five and high-fives are permissible…provided they are disallowed in basketball games when a player misses a free throw.

The dude who misses from the foul line should get no skin at all.

Was it the New York Matz that shut out the Dodgers on July 5th?

Last week we mentioned that Sierra Canyon quarterback Niko Harris has recovered from his knee injury and is looking terrific. Now toss into that mix junior running back Josh Cole, who rushed for 1,126 yards and 10 touchdowns. Wow, the Trailblazers must be set for a deep run in the Mid-Valley Division?

Maybe.

You’ve gotta respect SC but HC John Ellinghouse returns only left guard Dexter Stinson along the offensive line.

Now go to Paraclete where HC Norm Dahlia is thrilled to have Melquise Stovall returning, but he also has starters George Clifford (T), center Adam Silverman, and right tackle Taylor Tuiasosopo (6-4/295) coming back.

That makes the Spirits a contender this fall.

Go to Northview, which has a ton of talent coming back but HC Marcel Perez is losing four full time starters along the offensive front. Anthony Padilla is back at center but is undersized. Jael Martinez saw some action at guard as a sophomore.

I can hear voices now asking about San Dimas. First year HC Mark Holman has bad dude tackles Youseff Hanna and Charles Santisteban returning. He also has Nathan Aceves (6-0/270) returning to plug in the interior of the line. Aceves, only a sophomore, saw action for the Saints varsity as a freshman.

We can do this all day, it’s a lot of fun, but I’ll save it for Thursday.

I think it’s awesome the Dodgers are having a Juan Uribe bobblehead night even though he now plays for Atlanta. I’m still holding out for the R.J. Reynolds bobblehead night though.

In regards to Matt Kemp: The former Dodger center-fielder, current Padres right-fielder, is batting .239 with six home runs, 42 RBis and a .279 OBP. The good news is he’s only making $21-million this season.

In regards to Edward Dominguez: The El Monte quarterback turns 17 today.

In regards to the next Pele: Freddy Adu, 26, has played for D.C. United, Real Salt Lake, Benfica (Portugal), AS Monaco (Monte Carlo/France), Belenenses (Portugal), Aris (Greece), Rizespor (Turkey), Philadelphia Union, Bahia (Brazil), Jagodina (Serbia) and KuPS (Finland) over the course of the last 12 years.

In regards to the United States Women’s team winning the World Cup: Is it a victory because they’re women? Or is it a victory because they’re Americans? Some of the initial stuff I read about their win over Japan was about equality, justice, and Title IX…Is it impossible to see something these days without seeing race or gender first?

In regards to Donovan McNabb: The former NFL quarterback was arrested in Gilbert, Arizona on a DUI. His second since 2013.

The Dude abides…
