(City of Industry) – Workman DE/LB Jose Zamudio has accepted an offer to play football at the University of San Diego Coach Eric MacIntyre confirmed Friday.

Zamudio, 6-3, 235, amassed over 200 tackles in the last two seasons. He will graduate from Workman with a 3.8 GPA.

San Diego is an FCS Division 1 school which is the equivalent of an Ivy League school.

Zamudio, a three time Montview All League Honoree, a National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete, and San Fernando Valley All Star Game invitee, will play defensive end at USD.

The University of San Diego coaching staff said that they are excited to get such an aggressive and smart player. Zamudio will join the Toreros in June. He is the first Workman High school Football player to play at a Division 1 school in over 2 decades.

“He truly is a great example of the strides all the student athletes have made in the last three seasons at Workman High School,” MacIntyre said.

MacIntyre coached Zamudio at Workman the last three seasons and just last week took the head coaching job at El Monte.
