(“The TEN” is not a top ten but ten items worth being included in “The TEN”)
1.) Mid Valley Sports wishes everyone a Happy Festivus!
2.) “I don’t think it is that important to Stanford that McCaffrey plays in the Sun Bowl. If it was, couldn’t they have gotten him an insurance policy to protect him against injury?”—MVS commenter “My Two Cents”
3.) Indianapolis Colts running back, Frank Gore (33) needs 109 more yards to reach 1,000 on the season for the ninth time in his 12-year career. He is 69 yards away from the 13,000 yard rushing mark. Gore currently ranks eighth all time and another 1,000 yard season in 2017 would place him fourth behind Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton and Barry Sanders.
4.) On this day in 1972 the “Immaculate Reception” gives the Pittsburgh Steelers an improbable 13-7 win over the Oakland Raiders in the AFC Divisional Playoff game. With 30 seconds left and the Steelers down 7-6, Franco Harris caught a pass from Terry Bradshaw that was intended for Johnny “Frenchy” Fuqua. The pass bounced off the hands of Raiders’ safety Jack Tatum and was scooped up by Harris who ran for the game winning touchdown. There has been a controversy ever since because people contend that the ball hit either Fuqua or the ground either of which would have resulted in an incomplete pass by the rules at the time. The officials ruled touchdown.
5.) Former San Dimas Saint standout Theo Darlington is 24 today.
6.) On this day in 1951, Dumont paid $75,000 to televise the first coast-to-coast football game as the Los Angeles Rams defeated the Cleveland Browns 24-17 in the NFL Championship game. (Note: Tim Peterson covered this for Mid Valley Sports)
7.) “It’s easy to have faith in yourself and have discipline when you’re a winner, when you’re number one. What you got to have is faith and discipline when you’re not a winner.”—Vince Lombardi.
8.) Keith Jones, the Father of San Gabriel Football, is 57 today.
9.) Willie Calhoun, 22, played second base for Los Angeles Dodgers Double-A affiliate Tulsa in 2016. He hit .254 with 27 home runs, 88 Rbis, .318 OBP. He bats left-handed and committed 21 errors in (.957) 118 games.
10.) The Los Angeles Clippers are 22-8…The Los Angeles Lakers are 11-21.
#8) Happy Birthday coach Jones. Make SGHS football competitive again. PLEASE
@Really
Thank you. Kid is a blur. Not sure how if there’s a guard in our league who can stay with him. Looks like Arroyo and SEM will be switching places in basketball right guys. 1,2 in football 5,6 in basketball lol
@FidayKnight
His name is Jayden Alibey, Coach Randell has a few players who work hard. Their best shooter rolled his ankle in that game too and sat out. As I said in an earlier post. They beat Gabby by 14 in that lst tournament. Rosemead tore up El Monte by 31. should be interesting.
The Schurr Spartams send out their condolences to the Ray family and to the Santa Fe football family.
So my son told me that their football coach has step down. So I guess it was true that he was only staying for a season. It was fun knowing you and your terrible coaching/ play calling. Now go somewhere else and mess up a different program.
Sources… lol
@the recruiter
Haha yea right.
Sources tell me Arcadia returning next year to the Bonita, Covina etc. route. Feature home grown talent.
Recruiter you forgot Arcadia!
Public Schools in the SGV area that will try and grab your players; La Mirada,La Serna,Norwalk,Buena Park,Santa Fe,Downey,Mayfair,Charter Oak,West Covina,Claremont,San Dimas,Arroyo,Monrovia, San Marino,Pomona,Baldwin Park,Northview,La Puente,El Monteand Diamond Ranch and Bar. Clearly some programs are better at snapping up kids because they have it down to a science. But to be sure all these schools have staff that is out there whispering in your kids and your kids families ear.
Chandler Ray, a lineman for the Santa Fe Chiefs, was struck and killed while riding his bike Thursday evening in Norwalk. He was only 17 years old. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and the Chief football team as they do their best to cope with this tragedy.
I know we’re still in football hangover but this kid tore through Arroyo couple nights ago. Real deal. Hes number 3
@mvs
You gotta do an spread on the PG from mountain view. This kid just might make the view league favorites in basketball.
#2 not a real smart comment…SMH
The Lakers are going nowhere at full speed, the Clips are on their yearly race to the middle, and they just might make a movie called The Silence of the Rams. What a time to be a pro sports fan in the City of the Angels.
