[El Monte] – In the Lions first home game in two years El Monte runs away with a 59-6 victory over visiting South Pasadena.
Davon Booth started the scoring with a 9-yard touchdown run to make it 8-0 after a 2-point conversion. After a 29-yard touchdown pass from Nathan Velasquez to Booth, Lions took a 16-0 lead after one quarter.
Abel Cuevas started off the second quarter with a 35-yard run to paydirt and another Velasquez to Booth TD pass made it 32-0 midway through the second quarter.
Fullback Abel Ochoa got in on the action with a 49-yard dash to the end zone that was followed up by another Booth rushing TD from 64-yards making it 45-0 at halftime.
The first play of the second half saw Booth find the end zone for the fifth time – this one a 70-yard scamper.
Marcos Figueroa intercepted a Tigers pass setting himself up for a 35-yard rushing TD to cap the scoring for the Lions.
South Pasadena got on the board in the fourth quarter on a 33-yard run from Ivan Estrada.
El Monte finishes with 481 yards rushing and 518 total yards. Booth had 143-yards rushing and 37 receiving with 5 trips to paydirt, Cuevas has 11-carries for 151 yards and a score. Ochoa chipped in with 92 yards and a touchdown.
Lions stay home and host San Marino next week, South Pas goes home and faces Eastside.
Past two games have been the best rushing El Monte has ever seen, these kids ain’t no joke!
