Alhambra battle for league last year….and will do the same this year.
Stat Man,
Not sure where you get your roster info, but La Serna’s roster is posted on Max Preps, and has been since the start of the season.
Matter of fact, the 2019 Lancers Football Program, just went on sale at this last (2nd) home game, and if you’d like, you could stop by the Business & Activities Office, M-F after 3pm, and purchase one for $10.
As Beltran is no guru stated, not La Serna’s fault that Eisenhower, CIF-SS champs in their respective Div last season, and Arcadia (losing in their respective Div championship game last year), have both come out flat.
Murrieta Mesa played and lost in their first round of the playoffs last year, while Colony played and lost to La Serna last year in the 1st round. Montebello, I believe, also lost in the first round of their playoffs, after going 4-1 in their league. And Warren lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs, after going 4-1 in their league.
Warren is currently sitting on a 2-0 record and may give La Serna a challenge come week 5…hoping that both teams are undefeated at that point, as it could be a preview of a playoff matchup. Last year’s game between the two was exciting with Warren coming out on top, 47-46.
@statman- what school do you represent? …you sound very ignorant talking about something you know nothing about?
@sports man
I have seen a couple of BG games this season and I dont even think if they had a big name Pro or College coach would make a difference. They have a few kids that seem to give all they can but as you know it takes 11 kids on both sides of the ball. Beltran is doing what he can with what he has not sure where all this guru talk or hating comes from but if you ever suited up or coached a day in your life you probably would not be making these types of comments.
@Statman Whittier? What a joke, everyone know’s 29 lives out of the area. Wishful thinking they ever had a chance last year. ER and LS will destroy the cards. Enjoy D12
Area Fan…if it’s that easy then why don’t you go turn it around?
Almont League
Montebello will be fine, they are playing a tough preseason schedule to prepare them for league and the playoffs.
Bell Gardens will be fine, there is no great conspiracy. I went to the El Rancho game they had 5 guys not dressed and 3 of them are two way starters. Bell Gardens will be fine once league starts, they are playing a tough preseason schedule to prepare them for league and the playoffs. Even Coach Newell went 0-5 twice in the preseason and went 5-0 in league.
Schurr will compete for a playoff spot, but I think come up short! Inexperience and youth will do them in.
Alhambra will be 5-0 when the preseason comes to an end, they will play NO ONE! It will show when league starts, they will beat Schurr for 3rd place…but it will be a close game!
Del Rio League
La Serna will win league, they are by far cream of the crop.
El Rancho will compete for second place but doesn’t have the horse power to compete with La Serna. They will beat Cal and Whittier though.
Whittier and Cal will compete for 3rd place, too bad 3rd place doesn’t guarantee a playoff spot because there are only 5 teams in the league. My bet is Whittier beats Cal in a very competitive game.
@ stat man
Have you ever been to an LS home game… or a road game? LS fan base is strong.
MaxPreps Roster? what are you talking about… I personally know the starting QB lives in the area. Get your facts straight.
Loving what Two Cents is saying about St. Paul…not only is the athletics down to that girls basketball thing, the campus itself resembles little more than a re-worked elementary school. The days of Marijon Ancich are long gone, so there is ZERO status attached to attending this dive.
Yea tough good win felt like a playoff game. The mistakes they made didn’t make them put their heads down. Booth was the man and Cueva didn’t have a good night on offense but is always a force on defense. Game with less mistakes could of been 30/35-0. Going to be a good game this week OV lost last week to a tough always good Burbank team. Probably the game of the week.
When is it Mountain View’s turn? Over the last two decades 0 playoff appearances. Everyone else currently in the MVL has been in on that time four teams have been MVL champions. Over that time two 5-5 season, two victories over South, a couple against El Monte and Gabrielino and zero against Rosemead and Arroyo. I watch some of the interviews they do at the Pizza place and just by the looks of it those coaches can’t do it. When are they going to realize basic offense and basic defense is what is going to work. Old school Rosemead double tight and pound or even back to the double wing t. Not a lot of talent needed in those offenses just toughness. I haven’t seen what they run on defense but basic with four down linemen, blitzes and basic covers. They’re working with kids that have none to minimum experience so take all the thinking out of it and go play. Hopefully someone can get in there and change it up, can’t be happy with just having kids showing up. Got to win! That’s what sports is about.
i see Beltran has taken over as the worst! No more Brown at Los Altos? Well some people on here just have to criticize non stop;; no worries=they will find someone;;; i suggest they need to criticize;; although psychologists dictate that the people who criticize non stop other people are the persons who actually in in most trouble
I don’t even know what Anonymous’ post was trying to say:
“You must be the Coach that was FIRED! Beltran cant play from what I saw kids seem to be going through the motions no effort! can’t coach that?”
Uh, what? So are you agreeing with me here? Beltran is not a guru of anything except for getting talented kids to buy in… at least he did at LS. Can’t say the same for his tenure at BG. And no, I haven’t been fired from BG, or anywhere for that matter. I have no association with BG I just know what kind of “man” Beltran is.
As for Stat Man’s comments on LS’s preseason schedule… yeah they haven’t played a challenging game yet. Not their fault that two preseason teams that either won CIF (Eisenhower) or were close to winning it all (Arcadia) in 2018 suddenly went downhill for this season. I think Colony and Warren will hopefully be more competitive (emphasis on Warren).
I think ER could battle against LS and Cal looks to be off to a good start. ER looks more impressive though as they have battled against tougher opponents. LS seems to be able to throw the ball though which doesn’t bode well for opposing teams trying to practice against the wing as well as the spread aspects of the offense. But LS is known for having let down games after their bye-week so we’ll see if they can go undefeated in league this time around.
Again, Beltran is no guru.
Gonna be a tall task for sure.
@Truth: Is the reason La Serna no longer puts up a roster on Max Preps is because so many of your starters do not live in your attendance area? I’m betting yes. And that might be why your fan base is so small. Few local kids get into the game. I don’t know about ER but I do know that non playoff team Whittier Cardinals had you beat last year until they made a few mistakes in the last few minutes. So….
@statman that is true but the del rio ain’t any special so what does that mean? Worry about making D11 playoffs.
Solid performance from the MVL teams.
The big game was EM vs SM, EM passing it first and only test of the young season. Devon Booth stole the show. Running for over 200 yards and two crucial interceptions. Not sure what happened to Cuevas as he had only 13 yards. Good win for EM and they host o very good OV team next week.
Arroyo and Schurr played a tough game. From what I hear Dylan Leonardis and Adrian Calvillo carried the nights on defense and offense. Arroyo has the early bye next week then will face Rio Hondo Prep.
Rosemead passed its test with flying colors. Panthers are rolling Ostry and Campbell leading the way. LP started strong but Rosemead proved to much for them. Rosemead has its biggest test next week vs Schurr
South El Monte got a much need victory. Eagles Offense has been struggling but enter the Nobles and the offense got healthy quickly. Mario Zamudio looking like the real deal for the Eagles as he Scored 4 touchdowns. SEM will visit Pasadena Poly in a big test for them. I will be at this game next week.
Don’t look now but Gabrielino is on a winning streak. Beating Contreras. Gabby will host Bosco Tech next Friday night.
Mountain View this stings but we got blown out by Gladstone. This is as bad it gets. Long season for the Vikings. Bright spot is it’s a very young team.
@Just an ‘Ol Has Been, St. Paul? They haven’t been relevant for over 30 years. You saw what happened last Friday when they tried to play with a big boy team. They got SMACKED! And we are not even talking about a D1, D2, or D3 team. They are now mainly a girl basketball school.
Hey Er people let me know how. Your game turns out against Ls,I’m sure you will get your DELETED handed to you again
The highly ranked La Serna Lancer first 5 opponents have a combined record of 1-13 so far in 2019. Tough schedule for a D6 team.
Thought it was a head coaches job to get the kids to play for you?
I told these guys that this was going to be the game to cover this week🤷🏿♂️
Only reason ER got coverage vs Northview was… and let’s be honest … 1) it was a Thursday game , and 2) they were covering Northview … Regardless, we will play! And we appreciate any coverage Lol hope to see you soon Tim! 🙂
Yup they play up non league. Them play win the Almont then what first round second round. What does that schedule do. Get a Cif then you can talk about your non league. Oh ya Apple Valley not in division 10 anumore and Valley View not there also. What excuse will Monkeybello use this year. Can’t wait for the response
It was against Nogales but a win a win will take it
@Anonymous
You must be the Coach that was FIRED!
Beltran cant play from what I saw kids seem to be going through the motions no effort!
can’t coach that?
“Please coach Beltran we are begging you to come be our new Head Coach at El Rancho”. One of many such posts during Spring of 2016.
So glad that high school football is back. For so many years, our local area never gave too much “CRED” to these Del Rio League teams. Most acknowledgment went to St. Paul, Amat, SJ Bosco, La Habra and La Mirada. The El Rancho Dons, La Serna Lancers and Cal Condors are starting off well. I know it’s still early but they’re off to an exciting start.
Last year, ER started off slow and gradually got better each week (these kids always get better each week under Medrano). Cal Hi, under Zamora, is starting off perfect (is, he what they’ve been in need for). But LS is too (wondering if the new air assault is gonna be the difference maker for them).
Congrats to George, Medrano and Zamora (and staffs) in their first three games of 2019. Excited to see who will put in the work to maintain this start and see it through ten weeks and the post season. This will be tough in a four team league to get into the post season. Can’t afford too many slip ups.
I’d bet that Margarito Beltran, under a self-imposed deadline to make huge waves in his third season, put so much pressure on his players that they simply tuned him out, and are self-sabotaging their way to a coaching change.
When I saw Montebello’s non-league schedule I admired the coaches pluck but disagreed with the value of it. The thought process of the coach has to be that such stress tests on your team will prepare you for your weaker league opponents and to go deep in the playoffs. But…..one can only take so many gut shots from a stronger opponent before you start to wilt. Even the manly Roberto Duran said “No Mas”. I hope the Oilers can stay healthy and upright during this onslaught and maybe beat the surging hard hitting ER Dons next week. But……If I’m a mom watching my little baby go out there every Friday getting pounded against a better, stronger team every week with little chance of success, well that’s gotta be tough. Time will tell if it pays big dividends.
Temple City 0 points? Against Alhambra? I predict they’re the next to drop football. That’s just embarrassing. Maybe you can rent out the field to local soccer teams.
BG is going 2-8 or 3-7 at best. Guru Beltran? Never a thing.
When I played at SGHS we had a tough preseason. Northview, Pasadena, Burroughs, Hart, Burbank.
I must have missed a great game in East LA….. And so did all the media. No write ups nowhere. I guess you can’t cover them all. Anyway, if El Rancho gets any coverage it is the old fashioned way, they earn it. Last year same thing, no coverage until they started rolling up good teams from the Antelope Valley in the playoffs. In the polls they were projected to be last in the Del Rio in 2018. Hope I can watch it on HUDL.
From T. Peterson: I just covered El Rancho two weeks ago against Northview. Game story posted. And yes we will cover ER again soon. Like you said you can’t cover them all.
Lol! Typical brainless response. A team wants to play better competition and some brainless clown talks crap. All that does is get them ready for league and playoffs. Let’s see how it pans out at the end of the year. Nobody was expecting MHS to dominate preseason. But everyone will expect them to do so in league. Stop hating and stop supporting teams that play cupcake preseason……
It was 35-34 but omg what a game… down 27-7 and stormed back. Never say die attitude! Adrian Medrano is doing it the right way, no recruiting, no size, no speed, multiple injuries, a 5’0 ft qb playing against a vastly bigger Garfield team and they find a way to pull it off on a terrible field with city section refs in a hostile environment. If I’m a football player I want to play for Adrian Medrano.
Bonita score?
From T. Peterson: Added it. Thanks.
What happened to the guru Beltran?
Solid win and great come back. Best of luck the rest of the way.
Really, now we are making excuses. Don’t play them if you are going to make excuses cause they look like crap. Sad state of affairs in Oilerville but they got their new blow up to run through. Yay.
Sad to say the state of the league as a whole is at an all all time worst.
Great game! Both coaches had their teams ready to play! Let’s hope they keep this game going for the coming years!
#GODAWGs
EL Rancho wins 36-35 at Bulldog Stadium. Huge Crowd, intense atmosphere. Don’t ask me to explain what happened. It is just too much. Enough to say it was the best high school game I have ever seen. Congrats to both teams. Thank you.
From T. Peterson: The final score we were given and saw posted was 35-34.
Gladstone 49 – Mt View 8. Game moved from Citrus to Mt View. Game finished by the end of first quarter. Mt View is in for a long season. Gladstone improving.
Sad to see the state of The Gardens. Where is the fire! 4 and 43 were on fire last year. Needing them to play both sides of the ball takes a toll.
@who your mama,
Really take on who Montebello is taking on and then run your neck(s). NOBODY is stepping up to that type of comp in the Almont. And you suck for the record!!
I suppose we’re all guilty of focusing on the major programs, at the expense of the lesser teams who are out there giving their all. That’s why I’m pleased to provide a score you might otherwise not notice: Pasadena 77, Pioneer 0.
El Rancho at Garfield
Final 35-34 Dons
Awesome comeback win for the Dons…
Arcadia at La Serna
Final 56-6 LS
Running clock in the second half.
The Del Rio is looking strong.
OILERS STILL SUCK
Whittier 35 San Dimas 26. San Dimas football is in a very enviable position. They will make the playoffs every year just by showing up for the games. The lack of competition in the Valley Vista League assures it. It is like they are a D1,2 team. They go 0-10 no problem they still make the playoffs. This could be San Dimas problem of late. it is my contention that a team must be tested often in order to overcome the bad calls, dropped passes and dumb penalties that come your way. Based on great demographics the Saints draw from a wide area and always have a good talent base. They have a good passing attack, use it. Maybe not so much 3 yards and a cloud of dust and brush up on your defenses. Get back to winning against teams rated higher than you and not losing to soso teams. And don’t coach in the shadow of Zernikow. You coaches do your own thing.
