(San Gabriel) – Marcus Galan, who was the defensive coordinator for San Gabriel last year, has been named head football coach of the Matadors according to multiple sources.
Galan takes over for Kevin Encinas who stepped down earlier this month after four years at the helm. The Matadors are coming off of a season in which they won the Division 13 CIF Championship with a 52-27 win over Bishop Montgomery. They advanced to the State Bowl 6-A Championship after beating Kennedy 46-34 in the first round but they ultimately fell to Atascadero 41-0 in the final.
Galan was the DC under Encinas for the last four years.
The crazy truth is that, despite SG’s recent trophy acquisitions, the team is still at the bottom, trying to break away from the failing pack known as the Almont. When five out of six teams from this odiferous conference are granted playoff berths, you know CIF is a disreputable joke. A real first step for Galan would be to establish dominance in the Almont, winning a playoff spot the way it used to be done, by winning league. Then, and only then, we can start getting excited about playoff glory.
Atascadero first decent team they played in playoffs ,
Kevin staying on as oc?
