I sat down with another area athlete. South El Monte’s Max Pineda is a four-year varsity basketball player and a three-year varsity baseball player. This past season he averaged 13 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists on the court and is currently batting .280 and has a 3.32 ERA on the baseball diamond.

Offensive lineman Marko Luera, shown here at New Mexico.

Marko Luera played varsity football at Glendora for four years where he was an offensive and defensive lineman. He graduated in 2025 and then went on to play at the University of New Mexico. He has since transferred to Azusa Pacific and is set to start the season this fall. I had a chance to sit down with him recently for a Q&A.
