Everything was contentious for the Mid Valley Sports staff when it came to post-honors and who should get them. We fought over everything and nearly everyone. And every complaint we’ve heard up to this point has some merit (except the “political” argument)…

Southeast Division MVP: Downey Running Back Justin Huff

Justin Huff is only a sophomore and he was already named our “newcomer” of the year. But when you score 26 touchdowns and run for more than 2300 yards it’s hard to be ignored.

Northwest Division MVP: Gladstone Quarterback Kevin Amezquita

“He looks good, but we’re going to see if he can get it done on the field.” That’s what Gladstone HC Albert Sanchez told Mid Valley Sports in the spring of 2011 about Kevin Amezquita.

Mid-Valley Division Player of The Year: San Dimas Running Back Jake Payton

With a little less talent in the San Dimas backfield, Payton could be a 3,000 yard back.

Pasadena Belts Burroughs

By Corey Kwok  Pasadena turned the switch on and stepped up big time in the second half while rolling to a 65-35 rout of Burroughs Wednesday night.

Southeast Division Player of The Year: Norwalk Running Back Rashaad Penny

In retrospect maybe this selection shouldn’t have been tough, but it was. Since player of the year is based on numbers and performance there was a month long argument among the staff. Bitter enough for us to miss yesterday’s deadline.
