(Whittier) Enrique Pacheco hit Curtis Ashton deep over the middle for 38-yards down to the four yard line with less than a minute to play. A few moments later Kevin Ramos punched the ball in from 2-yards out to give the Lancer a 25-19 win over the California Condors Friday night at Cal High.

After forcing the Condors to put from the Lancer side of the field, Pacheco and the Lancers were forced on a march that started at their own 14 yard line. The drive didn’t start out in the best fashion with Pacheco missing on his first to pass attempts.

It wasn’t a stellar evening for Pacheco in the passing game but on a third and long, Pacheco scrambled for an 11-yard gain to keep the drive alive.

Pacheco then hit Anthony Garcia on a screen pass which netted La Serna with another 20-yards setting up the long pass from Pacheco to Ashton.

The Lancers got on the board first with 1:53 left in the first quarter on a Ruben Rios six yard run. The Condors cam back to tie the score in the second period on a 13-yard pass from Adam Setti to Bubba Martinez.

Cal went up 14-10 early in the third quarter on an 89-yard bolt to paydirt by Robert Leos.

La Serna came back to tie the score at 17 with 2:52 left in the third on a one yard run by Ramos.

Eric Garcia’s second interception of Pacheco set the Condors up on a drive from their own 31. The drive ended inside the Lancer one yard line when Nathan Lowden was stuffed at about a foot short of the goal line.

Cal did take the lead 19-17 as the defense corralled Ramos in the endzone for a safety on La Serna’s next play from scrimmage.
