1. Paul George returns eight months after a horrific leg injury to score 13 points for Indiana in a 112-89 win over Miami.

2. The San Diego Padres acquire All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel along with outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. from the Atlanta Braves for outfielders Cameron Maybin, Carlos Quentin, two minor leaguers and a draft pick.

3. The Clippers rout the Lakers 106-78. For the Lakers their 56th defeat sets a franchise record for most losses in a single season.

4. Adam Wainwright throws six innings of five-hit ball to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-0 shut out of the Chicago Cubs Sunday night in the Major League opener.

5. Dodgers vs. San Diego, today 1:00 P.M. Dodger Stadium – Opening Day.

6. Wisconsin beats Kentucky 71-64 to end the Wildcats quest for a perfect season after 38 straight wins. The Badgers will meet Duke tonight for the NCAA championship.

7. On this day in 1997 former Laker / Washington Redskin owner Jack Kent Cooke passed away at the age of  84.

8. On this day in 1987 Dodger GM Al Campanis appears on Nightline and says blacks may not have some of the necessities to be a field manager or perhaps a general manager along with other racist remarks. A protest erupted the next morning and Campanis resigned two days later.

9. “You always get a special kick on opening day, no matter how many you go through. You look forward to it like a birthday party when you’re a kid. You think something wonderful is going to happen.” – Joe DiMaggio.

10. Happy Birthday to former Major League pitcher Bert Blyleven who turns 64 today.
