Ernesto Camacho wasn’t supposed to see much action in 2016. Arroyo had its quarterback. He was penciled in back in the summer and in the early part of the year looked like he was locked in for the whole year.
Then there was an incident in which the starting quarterback was suspended opening the door for Camacho to step in. Camacho not only took advantage of the opportunity, he embraced it.
Camacho stepped in full time in week four against Rowland and immediately threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-7 victory. That was just the beginning. By the time the year was over Camacho had thrown for 3,158 yards and 35 touchdowns with just six interceptions leading Arroyo to the CIF title and a trip to the State Bowl.

Camacho completed 18 of 27 for 412 yards in a 70-21 semi final win over Segerstrom and followed that up with 229 yards including the two-yard game winner on the two point conversion in the CIF championship victory over Rancho Mirage.
Camacho, only a sophomore, also ran for 529 yards and 11 touchdowns on the year. When opportunity knocks, you open the door. Camacho not only opened the door, he broke it down. Ernesto Camacho is our Newcomer of the Year.

What is your problem. Arroyo Football is a really good program for a small school. Matter of fact, through the years they have had teams that could play with the big boys. For a small school to keep winning year after year. Give the program some credit. STOP HATING
Arroyo will be in much the same boat Northview was in last season. They will move to Division 8 or 9. SEM will not move up much because they have a 3-7 season last season. Really bad season added to a really good season. They may stay in 13 or at most move up to 12. But for arroyo this was their one one shot because they will stay in 8 or 9 from here on out because they win league every year. Good times are over!

Expect some big changes next season for Arroyo Division wise. The new cif will take there records from 2015 & 2016. Putting them in a 20 plus wins 4 minus losses area. And based off their league Strength which will be better thanks to South EL Montes run. Will push both programs up. Expect Arroyo and SEM to be between Div. 7-9 next year. Along with schools like Montebello, Schurr. But schools San Marino, Monrovia,El , San Dimas, that lost a lot of games last yr will move down from Divisions 4 and 5. And be placed along side the teams like El Rancho,Northview, Norwalk, Diamond Ranch and Bonita locally that had good to winning records that will keep them in the Div 7-9 Range. Arroyo and SEM will find them in the mix of those Divisions and Teams. Which will make it very difficult for them to repeat as CIF champs. Or deep playoff runs.
When does the CIF voting happen?.. ie: 1st offense/defense etc etc
The article is about a single player,Ernesto Comacho, but most of the comments are negative crap about Arroyo.
Give the player his due and get over being jealous about Arroyo.
You could only move two divisions up or down.
Dude they won a CIF title doesn’t matter what division I coached in a division higher then arroyo this season if we were in 12, 13 I’d take a ring. Still gotta go win the games.
Stability! Yes sir, you are correct. What is Coach Daniels Cell number? Is he in San Quinton? Do you drop him a line or send him some information about the cheerleaders there. Oh why did the Arroyo Frosh head football coach leave? He is not at the school or in the district either. He was a substitute teacher. Things at Arroyo are well hidden folks. Oh yes, they have 2 titles, that’s CIF titles how many MVL titles. Again they are Glue Gill in a Guppy fish tank and have been for years. Soon enough they will be swimming with Sea Bass and Barracudas. Can’t wait!
Everyone please stop…… arroyo wins because their is stability at the school and program. They are not no bigger and better than their league. They have 2 titles in their whole schools football history. Congrats on last year to them but they are right where they belong.

By the way, there is also talk about adding Pioneer to MVL and have 2 divisions much like the Gold Coast. This way Arroyo has an off year they can go the the bracket that has the crappy teams so they can still get in the playoffs.
8 teams mean 4 playoff spots. However, 4th place goes nowhere in division 12 and 13.
To answer that wonderfully structured question “why you mad”, I am not mad at all. I am disappointed that the local school districts, leagues and the CIFSS, don’t try to save high school football. Competition that is fare will get people to go see and support the games, not teams blowing out other ones, In order to have all the really good experienced players in their area want to go to their school. I take nothing away from Arroyo. They did an outstanding job! Remember, life is great when you are the big fish in the small pond. That is until there are no more smaller fish to fry. So, I hope Arroyo has plenty of success, enough to place them in a league where they have to really compete for a playoff spot and be not given a free ride year after year.
I will say this! I won’t complain if they get into the SGV league or the Palomares league. This will be so they will know what its like to be in a bigger pond.
Sorry to yank the spotlight from over Camacho’s head, but there’s a bigger newcomer in Los Angeles at this moment: the Chargers. Commenter The Truth can’t trust anyone named Ernesto, but apparently nobody in San Diego can trust anyone named Spanos.
Arroyo in the short term won’t leave their league. And they will definitely be moved up divisions next go around.
There is also an initiative led by the principals at Artesia, Glenn and Cerritos to leave the Suburban and to take Pioneer out of the Del Rio with them. If that happens look for the Suburban to get someone out of the SGVL like Paramount or Downey or even reach out to Arroyo.

Great job, good kid! Just good food for thought. In a couple years, Sierra Canyon went from the Mid Valley Div X to Division 8 and a State Bowl bid loosing to San Marino, to a Division 4 CIF Championship and State Championship. They will move up again! Maybe Arroyo will be placed in Division 13 so they can win the State Championship. So they can beat the crap out of all those teams like they have in the MVL.
As I have said for years, they need to be in another league with better teams. Send Arroyo to the Suburban, Pacific, Rio Hondo or to Jack Del Rio. Glenn or Cerritos-Glendale or Hoover- Pioneer would all be good.
Hopefully,CIFSS places them in Division 6/7. Where they belong. They will be in the playoffs with practically an automatic bid from the kissy MVL.
