Spathias Steps Down at Workman

By Tim Peterson

(City of Industry) – Hector Spathias has stepped down as the head football coach at Workman after two years he confirmed Wednesday.

The Lobos went 5-6 in each of Spathias’ two seasons. In 2018 Workman tied for first place in the Montview League going 4-1. The Lobos fell in the first round of the CIF Division 13 playoffs to Savanna 81-59.

This past season Workman went 3-2 in league good for second place and again went to the playoffs before falling to Ganesha 71-43.

Spathias plans to seek other coaching opportunities going forward.

“I appreciate the opportunities I have been given in coaching the students at Workman High School. I wish Workman football success in the future,” Spathias said in a statement.

what about lobos? SPATHIAS AND STAFF DID GREAT GREAT JOB! bUT maybe a defensive minded head coach that may win some games 60 to 40 instead of losing it 70 to 60? AREA FAN was Spat’s first year QB untalented? NO he was super talented , especially in the very sub average league. AND is the receiver with stats very very high on National Stat list untalented?? NOPE= he is a great great receiver especially for the teams he competed against 1 MORE IS the little running back Spat’s first year was easily the best back in the league and did he run for ???? 150 to 200 yards in CIF first round???? i think so. For this league , in a season with no real good teams like upcoming Sierra Vista, those 3 were far good enough for Workman to outscore enough teams and win a title and second Cif playoff earnings second season

What is Spathius resume? Has not he bounced all over the place. As a rule good coaches stay put and ambitious coaches move up. He has done neither, correct?

I could say I believe EM and Arroyo coaches are probably the only ones that stay off this blog in the MVL. Most likely read but don’t post.

Coach Spat to West Covina? That is an intriguing possibility.

Covina has a coach and he’s not going anywhere. Our play was inconsistent and not on the coach or coaches. We lost to Northview by 7 and to San Dimas by 3. You know that San Dimas that just beat their divisions number 1 rated team. Rowland was good this year too. Mistakes, penalties, and wrong routes run were prevalent this season.
Colts will be fine. Building the pyramids started with 1 block. Colts will build off of this eason.

Coach Spat is a great coach he wasn’t expected to win at Los Altos with a young team yet he lead them to a winning record and playoffs. My son had fun playing under coach spat and crew for that one year at Los Altos. Good luck at the next school. If you can make a winning year out of 2 down programs with little talent I can imagine what you can do with some talent

The last two years the excitement on campus was like no other. A first place finish followed by a second place finish and two playoff appearances was great. We had not took first in over two decades.
We just want to thank you for working with our boys, you had them believing they could do things that never been done here.

I don’t understand how they won ball games with a very limited roster. They had no JV or freshman squad and only 20 players on the varsity team.
I think if they get a full rosters of players they can do some great things.
