(Alhambra) – Sebastian Espinoza returned a blocked field goal attempt 65 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and the Alhambra defense did the rest as the Moors beat Schurr 18-8 Thursday night in an Almont League contest.

It’s hard to minimize the importance of El Monte’s win over Rosemead Friday night. To rally in the fourth quarter to beat a team that was expected to finish either one or two in the Mission Valley League is more than huge. It’s a turning point… an epiphany… a season changer.

The opening kick off for high school football is still a couple of weeks away. All the passing circuits are completed and fall camp is underway. Most teams will be throwing on the helmet and pads soon as they begin the stretch run to zero week.

Breaking News: They were Throwing at Arroyo!

(El Monte) – Arroyo, Alhambra, Maranatha, SGV Shootout Champion Diamond Bar and Schurr tossed it around behind B.L. Bergstom Stadium on Thursday. It’s become as common as the morning sunrise to see teams thowing at Arroyo but as long as I got a camera I’ll be there.

Schurr takes Third at Mission Viejo

(Mission Viejo) – Schurr took third place Saturday at the Mission Viejo passing tournament. The Spartans finished 4- 1 knocking off Long Beach Wilson, Capistrano Valley, Corona Santiago and Palos Verdes. Their only loss was to host Mission Viejo.
