I’m not ready to put together a football top 20 yet in any of the three divisions that we cover. It’s still a little early. But it’s never too early to start talking about how things might shake out in 2013 on the gridiron. Do they still call the football field the gridiron?

I’m at the Hall of Fame Game Friday night at West Covina High School and I’m still getting ripped by game director Leon Ward. He gave it to me on the phone Thursday night and he wasn’t finished when he caught up to me Friday night.

The Lakers and Clippers are done but the NBA playoffs are as intriguing ever. The Golden State Warriors haven’t been this exciting since the Run TMC days and in San Antonio you wonder how long Tim Duncan can continue to play at a high level.

Hull’s Eligibility Denied

(Diamond Bar) – Antonio “Noodles” Hull, who checked out of West Covina earlier this year and enrolled at Diamond Bar, has been denied eligibilty according to the CIF Southern Section website.

  It’s tough being a sports fan in Southern California these days. The Lakers and the Clippers finished off disappointing seasons by being bounced in the first round. Both Mike D’Antoni and Vinny Del Negro are in danger of losing their jobs.  

Austin Ford Commits to Whittier

(Arcadia)- Arcadia linebacker Austin “White Lightning” Ford has committed to Whittier College.  As the Apaches Team Captain, Ford earned All Area First Team and All Pacific League First Team honors, and was Defensive MVP for Arcadia High.

I know what they’re saying. He doesn’t have the arm strength. He isn’t mobile enough. He didn’t lead the Trojans to enough victories. But I still maintain they missed it with Matt Barkley.
