  It’s tough being a sports fan in Southern California these days. The Lakers and the Clippers finished off disappointing seasons by being bounced in the first round. Both Mike D’Antoni and Vinny Del Negro are in danger of losing their jobs.

The basketball playoff pairings were announced Sunday and again some of the brackets left you scratching your head. Baldwin Park is traveling to Beaumont. I hope that gas bill fits into the school budget.

Have you moved off the couch for the last week and a half? If you’re a football fan, and aren’t we all? it’s been heaven with a bowl game nearly every night followed by the start of the NFL playoffs this past weekend.

Notes and observations from Christmas Weekend 2011: It feels strange to have a Sunday in December with just one NFL Game. With Christmas falling on a Sunday all of the games were moved to Saturday the 24th leaving Green Bay and Chicago with the spotlight all to themselves on Sunday night.

By Tim Peterson   My first thought when USC announced the hiring of Lane Kiffin last week was why didn’t Matt Koffler get the job? But after coming to my senses and realizing that Koffler would never leave Rosemead for the Trojans my second thought was why did they hire this guy?
