Acosta Finishes Successful Season at Cal State LA
(Los Angeles) – We have been covering Manny Acosta since he played little league for the Pirates at New Temple Park to his high school days at South El Monte and then as he went on to college at Cal State Los Angeles. Here’s a quick update on his freshman year.

While Hall of Fame Coaches Ryan Maddox and Darryl Thomas continue take the slings and arrows after last week’s All-Star contest I’ve been thinking about more important things.
Mid Spotlight: Josh Mendoza
Alhambra’s Josh Mendoza is entering his second full year as the starting quarterback. Last year he got his feet wet as a sophomore but with a full season of experience and significant practice time (passing leagues, etc.) Mendoza is looking to have a break out year.
Primetime Elite Wins Hemet Tournament
(Hemet) – Primetime Elite Vargas, a local travel ball team, won the AFA Travel ball Tournament in Hemet in June and earned a trip to the Nationals in July.
Mid Spotlight: Andy Guerrero
San Gabriel’s Andy Guerrero is still battling Eric Alvarez for the starting quarterback position. But we’re hearing he could see time at other positions as well. He could line up in the back field, in the slot or wide. In Coach Jude Oliva’s offense Guerrero will get plenty of touches regardless of where he’s at.
SGV Shootout Set for July 9
(El Monte) – The SGV Shootout is set for Saturday July 9 at Arroyo High School. Last year the Shootout was moved to Gladstone while Arroyo was under remodel construction but this year it returns to its home.
