How about this for a matchup, and in my opinion it could happen, how about a Covina vs Northview matchup with both teams being undefeated with the vvl title at stake!!!

    Bearcat,
Don’t take anything personal. I’m just messing with you. If you want to talk about Bonita of old at least go back to the 2010 season. You had a great QB ( Pendleton??? ) who for what ever reason just had off games against WC. I think he only threw 5 picks that year and 3 of them were against WC. That was a great finals.
That was the year that WC’s only loss was against us their first game.
Look me up at our game and I’ll buy you a coffee. Or a Gatorade if it’s still in the 100’s.

    Bearcat,
You had to go back 10 years for that one? The year you guys scheduled “up” from Div 7 and played 3 Div 11 teams in preseason?
    Ok.
Forgive me, but, me not being Coach Thomas, and privy to what he does, or does not, I have to take all claims with a grain of salt.

But anyway, thanks for the reminder…Have not heard Jethro Tull’s “Living in the Past ” in a while. Time to put it on.

Bonita has definitely underperformed the last two years. They have a quarterback that has put up great individual stats but unfortunately have not translated to many wins. I think with Coach Bogan taking over their offense should be much more efficient and make playoffs.

    @Colt74,

What Bonita of old? The one that made Coach Thomas not want to schedule them again.

  7. July 25, 2018 - 2:08 pm | Permalink

    Which Bonita of old?
The 2017 one where they went 3-7 ?
    or
The 2016 one where they went 3-7 ?

    Just having some fun. 🙂

Northview: @El Rancho W, @San Marino toss up, much improve WC W, Don Lugo toss up, Los Altos LA has better players but the edge go to Northview coaching staff W. Looks like 4-1 or 3-2.
I like Covina to go 4-1, there only lost coming against Bonita. By game 5 Bonita should be the Bonita of old.

Oh wow! 1-4, or 0-5? Pretty harsh for a team returning everyone besides there quarterback. Time will tell, that’s why they play the games.

Contracts are normally for a min of 2 seasons. One home game, and one away game.
If you beat a team for both those years it may be to BOTH teams advantage to move on to other opportunities. If one school anticipates a down year, and they anticipate the other team having an up year it may be time to reschedule also. Only the coaches know the reasons why teams decide to drop contracts, and it may just be for nothing more than a change.
If you look at 99.9% of any given schools preseasons It rarely has all 5 preseason opponents being changed all at once.
Sometimes the planets line up, and it happens, but not usually.

This is true. During the second year of the game coaches start feeling out there schedule for the next two years and so on. Pretty sure the coaches know who has kids returning and who doesn’t.

    SEM
    Bonita
    WC
    Monrovia
We’re all added for this season. Not a few years ago. This isn’t college football where you schedule years in advance. Contracts are for home and home usually made every other year.

One last thing that NO ONE seems to take into consideration.
The flavor of the month is ” schedule up or you suck ”

So if a team schedules up that means that the other team is scheduling down.
And THEY want to get accused of sucking why again?

There is always 2 sides to every coin.

    SGVFAN,
I can see that you have absolutely zero understanding of how scheduling works. Let me help you understand.
    1. Contracts are typically for 2 years and plans are sometimes set in motion farther ahead than that.
    2. You can ask a team to schedule with you, but BOTH your schedules have to line up for that week, and the other team HAS TO SAY YES.
    3. You have to get something out of scheduling up. *see Northview vs Charter Oak…or La Mirada vs St. John Bosco. Scheduling a game to get blown out does what good again? You need to have the possibility to gain more than you can lose since all games count towards playoffs.
    4. We played West Covina a few years back. We were the ONLY team to beat them the season they won CIF. Remember? Played them 3 times actually. Won one outright, Lost one in Overtime ( they didn’t score ! ), and they had to forfeit a win to us for an ineligible player.

So, in review, when the wheels are set in motion to schedule a team, and it finally lines up, neither team knows if each is on an up year or a down year. Also remember that EVERY team is scrambling to get someone to fill an opening in their schedules…sometimes you get who you want, and sometimes you get what’s available.

Hate on Covina all you want. It affects no one but yourself at the end of the day. But at least have a valid reason…. Or a better made up one that this.

I love how Covina schedules West Co, Bonita, Monrovia, and S.El Monte when they are all down. You should’ve scheduled these games a few years back, way to schedule up I guess Covina!
From T. Peterson: Schedules are done a few years back.

Northview and Covina have some good schedules, that’s gonna get them ready for league and playoffs.

    Covina and Northview 4-1

Rowland, SD, BP, Wilson I think got 2-3 or 3-2.
