(El Monte) The Arroyo Knights traveled south to Mountain View High School to take on the Vikings in the Mission Valley League opener for both teams. It turned out to be a one-sided affair as the Knights hammered the Vikings to the tune of 51-0
It also was an efficient night for the Knights who scored on all of their first half possessions.
Arroyo won the coin flip and elected to receive. From there it was a seven play 59-yard drive straight into the endzone. Joe Reyes capped the drive with a 2-yard run.
Unable to gain any yardage on their first drive, the Vikings were forced to punt. The punt was blocked and covered by Arroyo at the Mountain View 18. One play later the Knights were on the board again on an 18-yard catch and run from Reyes to Ruben Munoz. Albert Lopez missed the extra point on this try but Arroyo still led 13-0.
The rest of the first half was more of the same. The Vikings were unable to gain any ground or first downs and Arroyo seemingly scoring at will.
Four more touchdowns were marked by the Knights. Two scores by Nate Guardado on a 2-yard run and a 35-yard screen and touchdowns by Reyes (24-yard run) and 10-yard run by Lelan Garcia.
Mountain View got their first first down on the night on their first drive to start the second half. The drive stalled however and the Vikings were forced to punt.
After a three play drive stalled the Viking 20, Lopez came on to boot a 37-yard field goal to extend Arroyo’s lead to 44-0.
The Knights final score on the night came on a 28-yard run by Xavier Fallon.
Mountain View will look to regroup and try to rebound Thursday on the road at Rosemead while the Knights will return home also for a Thursday matchup with El Monte.
Insider,
Gold Standard for the SGV? You mean Mission Valley League, right? Because if you are talking SGV as a whole, that’s kind of a huge reach. I’m sure there are many other teams in the SGV that would surpass Arroyo’s “gold standard”. What karat of gold are you talking?
No shame in losing to Arroyo. They are the gold standard of the SGV and have been for a long time.
Time for MV to make another change at HC. I know they don’t have the horses but there was so many plays where players didn’t know what they were doing and that’s on the coach. Maybe he should be telling jokes like the other Paul Rodriguez instead of coaching.
There’s nothing wrong with a little hope and support for The Mountain View football program.
Good luck for the rest of the season Vikings. Don’t let no one get you down. Especially not Arroyo arrogance.
Why so mad? Lmfao just relax and enjoy the games no need to be so emotional
You’re right. I would have been the first one to talk smack. MV should never beat Arroyo. The talent drop off is too big. It’s high school sports. Bragging rights is what it’s all about. Don’t be a baby.
@Anonymous quit whining bro IF Mountain View would won every hater and every one else would be on here calling them out and talking smack. It’s now secret Arroyo is having growing pains with inexperienced players. This would of been the perfect time for Mountain View to make statement. I guess the where not up for the challenge. Yes Arroyo will lose some games this year but not that night.
Get Back Coach gets to relax next since since his daddy Coach C and the transfer express is no longer at El Monte. Back to beating the crap out of the Lions.
Sipping my tea…. Looking out the window.
Game is testimony to importance of strength of schedule . Everything is skewed sharply now , there are many schools out there whose programs are severely challenged . It is fairly easy to pick up wins against these squads ( Keppel, Glendale, Workman) but it means little when competing against team that has played some decent competition
MVL filled with teams with -35 to -50 power ratings ,sad state of affairs, Arroyo rolls to another uncontested Division Title
Division 13 this year??
Great to see the Knights rise to the occasion and confirm the school’s standing in the El Monte football hierarchy. Best of luck going after that league title.
A lot of people make comments about every school and remarks about coaches let’s take a step back and look at the whole picture let’s give credit to all those boys who gear up every week and put that uniform on every Friday win or lose they still show up to practice and games why for only one reason because they love the game so
To all them boys who gear up and show up on Fridays keep doing what your doing win or lose your a winner in my eyes
Back when Mt View beat Arroyo 30 some years ago, they had some duds. Two D1 baseball players and one even made it to the show. Four other players also played JC ball. That game was played in 1980 and it was like 50-0. I think one of those D1 baseball player is coaching football in the SGV and doing well.
Mv thought they had a chance hahahaha 30 more years and will never become league champs
I know it was against Mountain View but Arroyos inexperienced team played real well. I was told the Arroyo QB has only played acouple year of pop Warner and this is the 1st year he’s started at QB since then. Again I know it Mountain View but I think he looked good. # 6 also looked really good. With all the hype Mountain View was pumping up I really thought they where going to put up a fight, guess not. Good luck to both teams this year
