This would make for an outstanding
    local area league.

    Cypress
    Diamond Bar
    El Dorado
    La Habra
    La Mirada
    La Serna
    Los Altos
    Yorba Linda

Likely football standings this past year…
    1-Yorba Linda
    2-La Serna or Cypress
    4-La Habra or La Mirada
    6-Diamond Bar or El Dorado
    8-Los Altos

No offense to the El Rancho QB, I’m sure he is a solid HS QB, but when you throw for 98 yds & lead your team to 0 TD’s in a nearly 50 pt loss, in the game that decided the league title, you will probably win league offensive MVP 0% of the time.

I’d say when you score more pts in 1 qtr of
1 league game than all 4 of the other Del Rio League teams scored against you combined for the entire season, 99% of the time you’re gonna have the league MVP come from that team.

    LA SERNA
    26 pts
    (2nd Qtr vs El Rancho
    = 1 Qtr)

    ER, SF, CAL, & WHITTIER
    25 Pts
    (Combined total vs LS
    = 16 Qtr’s)

WUHSD would prefer a LS player winning MVP. As opposed to any other team that’s not on the hill.

Where can I see a list of these MVP awards? Maybe it was at the LS football lunch? Did everyone get a gold star sticker for their propeller caps also?

Must have been a CO-MVP because La Serna has posted that Owen Long won MVP and El Rancho has posted that Angel Diaz won MVP.

Congrats to La Serna High footballers for winning ALL the MVP awards of the Del Rio League. How many MVP awards were won. Who won them and for what?

Everybody’s talking about what La Serna needs to really take off, and I have to say that they need to get tougher. The good news is that in a couple weeks, Bruce Rollinson will be offering his new locker room motivational series to interested prep programs FREE OF CHARGE. The only caveat is that the 73-year-old must be allowed to film the proceedings for his own personal use. I urge the Lancers to call Rollo ASAP to get in on this unique offering…it’s going to be a knockout.

El Rancho QB had far better stats. But La Serna QB is league offensive MVP?
Way to go WUHSD. Have to keep Friendly Hills moms and dads happy.

La Serna players win all MVP awards in Del Rio. Coach is coach of the year. imagine if La Serna did
recruit how much more dominating we would be. Go Lancers!

Injuries? LS had 6 weeks without playing a competive game. A player could have recovered from a broken bone in that time. Besides LS posters have been saying all along that LS 2nd and 3rd stringers have been playing the entire 2nd half against the weak chumps of the Del Rio. Or did big bad Santa Fe or El Rancho beat you up?

@ LS Lancer Dad, how bout instead of woe is me, we need a harder league. complain to the district to end open enrollment. Then you’ll see how mighty your Lancers are with just Friendly Hills athletes.
The other schools in the district would get their athletes back. Then we would see how dominate your team really is. So just stop the whinning!

LS Dad: Yeah right. LS pulls every string they can to recruit the WUHSD players and beyond and to stay in the Del Rio. Everytime it comes up in board meetings LS dads say, yeah but we don’t dominate in boys soccer. Rumor has it that El Rancho will change to the Mid-Cities league to replace Firebaugh and Santa Fe trying to get out of the WUHSD. That will leave LS just like you want it, LS, Cal and Whittier and maybe you can get Pioneer back.

    @ La Serna Lancer Dad,
The most important point in the loss to Palos Verdes, was injuries. We had several key pieces to the puzzle out or banged up due to injuries sustained during the season. The weak league could serve to prepare the number 2’s and 3’s getting them ready to step in during the playoffs and contribute more when needed. It is a balance to be struck to say the least.

Is that Coach Jones (Keith Jones)?!? Super excited to see the SG turn out. Also can we agree that SG has hands down some of the better uniforms in the valley. Like their uniforms, their offense is that good. I saw them against Schurr, definitely the better offense of the Almont, but defense was lacking in that game.

We need to leave the Del Rio League. Our boys went 4 weeks straight without being challenged, 5 if you count the culver city game. Our players weren’t used to playing a full game because our starters were coming out at halftime of every league game. I blame that poor preparation for the loss to Palos Verdes. No disrespect to the Del Rio teams but Even if we play a tough non league schedule, that preparation goes away after spending 4 straight games playing teams who can’t come close to hanging with us. We need to be in a harder league.

Winning records are overrated on this board if the commentary is to be believed as its most accurate representation. Sub-500 teams have made deep runs by defeating (sometimes soundly) teams boasting winning records. If Servite 1-9 had San Gabriel’s schedule, they’d be 10-0. I can’t stand candy a55 teams who pound their chests because they have a record that’s pretty on the outside yet lacking substance in terms of who they’ve played. This new system, for all its other faults, exposes the pretenders who would have otherwise been (false) contenders.

Just looked at the division 12 finals matchup, and noticed that Valley Christian is going into the contest with a LOSING RECORD of 6-7. That means it’s impossible for this team to finish with a winning record, even if they hoist the title plaque. Great stuff to tell the grandkids about.

Congrats Bassett on a good season. What started out looking like it be a rough season not getting a coach till June. They did ok. Yes it’s Division 14 but they played and competed.
Good job coaching staff and players for a fun season you didn’t give up. I hope next season will be the same.

CIF’s competitive equity worked well for the most part, giving us very close contests, with the exception of Salesian blowing-out Palmdale in division 10. Now if we can just get rid of that Covid-inspired GoFan ticketing system, with its built-in service fee. The thought that you can’t show-up at a game and pay cash for a ticket is rather insane.
