Covid protocol is non-existent. You enter the stadium and sit side by side maskless. This on-line only ticketing is a CIF skimming scam.
@ Question Mark: I’m inclined to agree with you about CIF not sharing or playing well with others.
One of the big reasons schools like this gofan thing is that they don’t have to wonder how much cash is being skimmed by their supposedly honest ticket sellers. On the other hand, I’ll bet an awful lot of casual fans are turned-off by the process of ordering admission online, not being able to back out of the purchase, and having to pay the so-called ‘convenience fee.’ I feel this new admission process puts another barrier to the spontaneity—and affordability—of attending high school sports. It was a Covid protocol, and it’s time to discard it.
My guess is they don’t sell tickets at the gate anymore because CIF does not want anyone to know how much they take in like when it is a live person at the ticket window.
that Downey offense is on fire right now! one of the most fun offenses to watch that I have seen all season. Keep up the great work win this for the southern section!
SGV is a lower division football town Arroyo 16, El Monte 19, Northview 21, San Gabriel 22 and that’s all good these kids work as hard as any of the Charter Oak and Bishop Amat kids. We dont make up these divisions we just play and win it. I hate when people come on here saying “Oh but they won D10, 11, 12” whatever it is. Our SGV teams dont get the athletes and if im keeping it 100 we dont get the brothers like OC and IE do.
@? Admin also pay taxes, if I’m not mistaken. They are also there working the games as supervisors, etc. Not that I’m a huge fan of admin, but let’s keep things real. These freebies that you talk about are negligible at best. Speaking of freebies, why not also point out that the press (as it exists) are also given the same perks working the game for a business venture. Your anti-public education sentiment is glaring. As for fundraising, I keep reading on these boards that football is a major generator or money, so why would parents, et al. have to fundraise so much? And don’t say it’s because of title ix or to fund other sports because it’s just not the case. Finally, the anti public school sentiment undermines these extracurricular because things like school choice and the eroding of public subsidies for schools forced schools to make choices about where money goes and sports and other extracurriculars are the first to get cut. People talk about the good old days, but what made them good was the amount of public funds used to subsidize schools. You can’t have it both ways.
I suggest, not know, that people can research to find out where the $$$ collected for these State Tournament games is processed. Myself? I trust that CIF administrators are not committing fraud. AND every football game played in state playoffs may not be ‘anything’ to some people, but mean so very much to the players, coaches, parents, some schools who have good administrators, etc
Why do admins get all the freebies at these games. They already get fed from the public teet. If anyone should get the perks it should be the parents. They are the ones paying the huge school taxes and ponying up more cash during the season in the form of mandatory fund raisers. About 500$ plus per kid and more depending on the program. CIF doesn’t share the pie they eat the whole pie including the pie tin.!
Yorba Linda is playing in 1A against Liberty at home.
Don’t forget the increased and automatic service fees from Go Fan. Also, who designed those horrible CIF Champions t-shirts?
I agree with Cal Football. Total money grab. Does CIF help with the transportation, housing and meals for these teams?
You also can’t be a proponent of player safety and then add on potentially 2 more anti-climactic type games after kids have already poured their whole bodies into winning a sectional title.
@ Cal football & CIF CEO’s: According to the information posted on the MaxPreps website, there will be a total of 43 state bowl and championship games, so there ought to be plenty of money-making opportunities.
There will be just the championship game in the Open Division (between St. John Bosco and Serra), while two rounds will be played in state playoff divisions 1A-7A as well as divisions 1AA-7AA.
Maybe we can call them state payoff divisions…
Did Yorba Linda opt out?
These guys obviously haven’t experienced winning a Regional and State Championship!
Mater dei Catholic looks like a very talented team. 3 and 4 star athletes on both sides of the ball. Downey has one of the best offenses in the state though and I dont see anyone being able to slow them down. Aidan Chiles, Bryant Carey, Jalen Crutchfield, Keion Andrew. Them boys the real deal !
Go Downey!!!
Lets be honest . All these games decide nothing except how much more money the CIF cash grabbers line their pockets with. I’m guessing CIF arranges 100 extra state games above and beyond the 14 games these teams have already played. Would love to see a forensic accounting of high school football. Who gets what and how much is taken in total from all these pointless games. The players families should get in free to see their sons play but NO NO NO. No freebies for families but admins get passes free premium parking and in some cases catered food. That is a crime
“Now, time for the money grab.”
