(Monrovia) – Randy Bell been dismissed as Athletic Director at Monrovia after more than 20 years on the job. Bell was told that they have decided to go in a different direction. He will continue to teach at the school.
Here is the letter from the new Principal.

Good post and recollection of Monrovia recruiting efforts from a decade or so ago ….Ellis McCarthy was another area star that ended up at Monrovia as they sought to gain elusive CIF banner. There were many others ( I remember LB who got scholarship to Northwestern , but bounced back with behavioral problems).
Unfortunately these tactics are commonplace now and Monrovia not an outlier anymore !
The Scoobie “signing” at Monrovia demonstrates a lot about a “just win baby” mentality there.
Background
Eric Sondheimer of the LA Times reported Scoobie would be changing his High School for the 4th time in his 4 year career of playing high school football, various schools were essentially attempting to get his “guardian” to sign him up as if he was a free agent in pro sports. Sondheimer stated that he doubted Scoobie would be eligible to play due to academic issues.
Monrovia signed scoobie, who knows what boosters did or didn’t do. Somehow Scoobie was academically eligible to play his senior year and played football, eventually Fresno St signed him to a scholarship, etc. His college football career never took off.
Later speaking to a local AD I learned that scoobie was home schooled and somehow was getting all “A’s and B’s” in his classes per a connected Monrovia booster. His monrovia football career was called a home schooling enhancement program.
I would have to think that the AD Bell and boosters etc had their fingerprints all over the scoobie signing and wink wink nod nod err home schooling enhancement program.
One would have to know where scoobie is now to determine if this whole affair benefited scoobie or exploited him.
Of course Bells dismissal and subsequent reinstatement by the Superintendent of Monrovia schools based on a personnel investigation, the details will never be known as it is a employment issue. But something has always smelled there, and it is not cheese. Just Win Baby…
Over blown story. AD’s at a public school have no real power. They schedule refs, take care of the fields, baby sit a few disgruntled parents. Its more of a volunteer position. You don’t need a higher degree. The main perk is a small office and oh, maybe they take one teaching class off your plate.
Mike Bohn is available. Even if the Wildcats could land him, they’d instead go with whoever they’ve decided on in advance. Politics isn’t restricted to Washington.
oh how the turn tables have turned
“Good Afternoon !” Is a glib opening for a dismissal of loyal employee
Is there more to the story????
