By Tim Peterson (Montebello) – Montebello quarterback Ryan Rivera, senior, 6-0, 170 performed at the Elite Athletics Skills Camp on Saturday in Lancaster.

Whittier College Tournament: A Few More Shots…

16 schools participated in the Whittier College Tournament Saturday. Some local, and some from other area codes. In the end La Habra beat Buena Park 26-14 in the final. Buena Park went 7-1 and beat Sonora in the semi finals. La Habra went 7-0 and beat El Rancho in the semis. Here’s a few more shots.

Grijalva Gets Five; Vikings Roll

By Tim Peterson (Covina) – It is fitting that Elijah Grijalva wears number five. It matched his number of touchdowns as he rushed for five, including three in the decisive fourth quarter, as Northview ran over Brentwood 49-21 Thursday night in the first round of the Mid-Valley Division playoffs at Charter Oak High.

Man, I thought I was going to make it through unscathed Friday night. There were some drizzles early but my thinking was like Bill Murray’s character Carl Spackler in Caddyshack “I don’t think the heavy stuff will come down for quite awhile.”

Monrovia didn’t lose the game Friday night. St. Francis won it. The Golden Knights took it. When big plays needed to be made, it was St. Francis that made them. The Golden Knights were bigger, deeper, stronger and ultimately better.

I’m hearing a lot of good things out of Covina. They have a quarterback and although Joe Benavidez is not the returning starter he’s looked great in the summer. All of the key skill players other than QB Darren Torres are back for the Colts.
