(La Verne) -The Bonita Air Assualt conlcuded Saturday with Upland knocking off Valencia to win the two-day Tournament. Monrovia, who played without starting quarterback Blake Heyworth and reciever Mason Bryant on Friday, had both players back on Saturday and had a lead on Upland earlier in the day before falling late in the contest.

Upland, led by this guy, won the whole thing
“Friday gave us a chance to see our backup quarterback Deshawn Potts,” said Monrovia Coach Ryan Maddox Friday night. “But when you’re without your starting quarterback in a passing competition, it’s kind of tough.”
Heyworth was at a football camp at Stanford and Bryant was nursing an injury but both were back at it Saturday making the Wildcats a dangerous team. Bryant recently received an offer from Ohio.

“He’s considering several offers,” said his father Kennedy Bryant. “Harvard is still there and there are others he’s still considering.”
Arroyo behind Nathan Coto played well and was in almost every game. They lost on Saturday to Rancho Cucamonga by 10 points and Kaiser by two.

South El Monte quarterback Levi Wells transferred in from La Habra
“Our defense played well all tournament except the first game against Ayala. We had four losses by a combined 14 points. We got to learn how to finish,” said Arroyo Coach Jim Singiser.
South El Monte lost both games on Saturday. The Eagles were shut out by Villa Park and lost to JW North by four. South El Monte had two quarterbacks taking snaps- last year’s starter Fernando Ramirez and La Habra transfer Levi Wells.

The Monrovia Braintrust
“He (Wells) will compete for the starting job even though Fernando was all league last year,” said South El Monte Coach Ibis Aguilar. “I want our players to have to compete at every position. We can’t be satisfied with 7-4 (last year’s record), we have to get better.”

Arroyo HC Jim Singiser "We've got to finish!"

The boys never seem to get close in our own.
Fair point LV. I was impressed on how smoothly it seemed to run with so many teams and fans. It had to be a logistical nightmare.
It looked to me that Bonita struggled because medrano and the coaching staff seemed to be more concerned about the way the tournament was being run than with how their own team was playing.
I saw Northview handle South El Monte and beat Burbank and I was VERY impressed with how much they have improved. Maybe they will make some noise in the VV this year!
Bearcats have two good qbs but the problems lie in the receiving corp. A ton of dropped passes negated their chances of a better showing. Also as usual our DB’s still chasing and face guarding the ends and the safties always out of position. Right now it looks like it could be a long season. They must find a go to receiver but as of now their is none or these qb’s will be wasted. Did not notice an active DB coach. If their is one he needs help.
NHS Mom- I’ve seen Northview a couple of times this summer and reported on them. I thought they looked pretty good. I just didn’t catch up with them on Saturday. Thanks for the info.
Bonita Alum – I was there for a few hours – didn’t see them. They must have got bounced early…
Since no one is reporting on Northview, I would like to say that we beat South El Monte, Don Lugo and Burbank on Friday’s games. Lost to Hart and JW North. Saturday we won one and lost one. Not so bad for the underdog team!
And nothing about the home team.
