Everyone is into the draft! Even my daughter refuses to go to school with without her NFL Draft magazine.

Everyone is into the draft! Even my daughter refuses to go to school without her NFL Draft magazine.

“Go melt back into the night…Everything inside is made of stone

There’s nothing in here moving…An’ anyway I’m not alone.”—Bob Dylan

Kick it!

I’m really out of my element when I talk about Catholic school stuff, but why not Salesian, Paraclete, and La Salle in a revamped Del Rey League? (Tee me up and take your swings, I know I’m missing something.)

Good for Kurt Scoby.

While I preferred the NFL Draft when the first two rounds were held on a Saturday afternoon, I still love it. Love reading up on it, planning my day around it, love screaming at the screen when the 49ers take Patrick Willis before the Rams (who got stuck with Adam Carriker) in the 2007 Draft.

Had a good conversation with Jude Oliva, I’ll post it later.

Something that doesn’t occur too often in the Mission Valley League is Rosemead (Steven Nava), South El Monte (Jaime Michel), Gabrielino (Eli Peters), and El Monte (Edward Dominguez) all return starting quarterbacks. Mt. View only threw 36 passes in 2013, so no issue there, but Arroyo comes back without a starting quarterback. When was the last time everyone in the MVL came back with a triggerman, but not Arroyo?

Okay, to be fair, Pasadena Marshall joins the MVL this fall and they don’t have a starting quarterback either.

Our Eyes Are On You Department: Thanks to “AzusaFans” for bringing up WR/CB Dominic Ramirez. The junior-to-be caught 34 passes, returned kick-offs, was in on 26 tackles, and picked off three passes for the Aztecs in 2013.

Howling at The Moon Department: As a Dodger fan, I’m not thrilled with Clayton Kershaw being out for the next few weeks. But fantasy league competitor Andy VillaTheDevil drafted Kershaw so when I heard the news…a smile did come to my face.

Was that wrong? Should I not have done that?

I still haven’t seen Dodger closer Kenley Jansen and former Monrovia linebacker Josh Lowden in the same room together.

So we’re watching MLB Network’s “Quick Pitch” after last night’s show and one of our “single” MVS staffers took notice of host Heidi Watney…And standard MVS rhetoric began: “Not bad”, “She’s pretty good”, “Why would you?”, “That’s not the question…”….yada, yada, yada.

Then a very tasteful picture of Watney is brought up on the computer and an MVS staffer comes closer for a look, with his glasses on, and this statement is made: “Dude, if you have to put your glasses on to check her out then she’s probably too young for you.”

Great rule of thumb for life.

Speaking of age, isn’t 34 a little old for a starting free safety in the NFL? The Washington Redskins signed Ryan Clark, a great player with a lot of mileage, for 3.5 million. I mean, not even Hall of Fame bound Ed Reed can put off father time.

Last Add 2007 NFL Draft: The 49ers took Willis with the 11th overall pick. The Buffalo Bills took Marshawn Lynch with the 12th pick. Then the Rams swallowed the jalapeno and took Carriker at 13 before the New York Jets drafted Darrelle Revis at 14.

…And that is why the team of my youth, the blood of my sporting veins, has not made the playoffs since 2004.

Regards:

In regards to Cantwell: Talk to me…

In regards to former South Pasadena AD Ralph Punaro’s passing: Good man.

In regards to Ledesma: No, former Azusa quarterback Jose Ledesma and new San Gabriel HC Joe Ledesma are not the same guy.

In regards to “Survivor”: I’m going to go out on a limb and say Tony goes home tonight.

In regards to Kobe Bryant: Stephen A. Smith said this;

“Even though the system is sometimes unjust, unfair, it doesn’t accord us the license to be unfair as well. We have to be sure that if we re shining a light on issues that we’re just as fair-minded as we’re asking other people to be toward us. Because if we’re not willing to do that, then we don’t have a strong argument…So you rise to the occasion by making sure you exercise a level of fairness and justice that you want others to bring your way … we’ve come a long way as a society; we have an obligation to recognize that instead of always getting emotional and assuming that someone is against us because of race.”

The Dude abides…
