Mid Valley Sports: All Mid-Valley Division Football Team 2012

(We’ve said it before. No second team, no third team, and we don’t make someone an MVP to move them up and then slide someone else into their position. Lot of debate. In the end we realize we’ve made a couple of people happy and a whole host of others very angry. Our choices, we […]

Mid-Valley Division MVP: El Monte Quarterback Brandon Martinez

Everything was contentious for the Mid Valley Sports staff when it came to post-honors and who should get them. We fought over everything and nearly everyone. And every complaint we’ve heard up to this point has some merit (except the “political” argument)…

Southeast Division MVP: Downey Running Back Justin Huff

Justin Huff is only a sophomore and he was already named our “newcomer” of the year. But when you score 26 touchdowns and run for more than 2300 yards it’s hard to be ignored.

Northwest Division MVP: Gladstone Quarterback Kevin Amezquita

“He looks good, but we’re going to see if he can get it done on the field.” That’s what Gladstone HC Albert Sanchez told Mid Valley Sports in the spring of 2011 about Kevin Amezquita.

Mid-Valley Division Player of The Year: San Dimas Running Back Jake Payton

With a little less talent in the San Dimas backfield, Payton could be a 3,000 yard back.

Southeast Division Player of The Year: Norwalk Running Back Rashaad Penny

In retrospect maybe this selection shouldn’t have been tough, but it was. Since player of the year is based on numbers and performance there was a month long argument among the staff. Bitter enough for us to miss yesterday’s deadline.

Southeast Division Player of the Year:….? Not Yet!

There is a major battle in the MVS staff ranks about this award. Stay tuned.

Pasadena Names Eric Scott New HC….NOT

According to the Pasadena Sun’s Andrew Campa, Pasadena Unified School District has blocked the hiring of Scott. Scott, who previously served as head coach at Compton Centennial and played his high school football at Crenshaw, was announced as the Pasadena Bulldogs new head football coach yesterday the L.A. Times’ Eric Sondheimer reported.

Northwest Division Player of The Year: North Torrance Quarterback Jorge Hernandez

When the switch was flipped and the Montview and Olympic League’s were rolled into the Northwest Division the top quarterback was going to Maranatha’s Andrew Elffers. If not Elffers it was going to be Jacob Kalama of Torrance. Perhaps Ivan Vasquez at La Puente or Ryan Esslinger out of Whittier Christian.

Mid-Valley Division Coach of The Year: Monrovia HC Ryan Maddox

When Pat Riley was the coach of the “Showtime” Lakers he used to get overlooked when the “Coach of the Year” awards were handed out. The feeling was that with all that talent the Lakers were supposed to win, that all Riley had to do was roll out the balls.
