So West Covina wins the SGV Shootout? What? Last year the Bulldogs were knocked out early and that figured. With guys like Chris Solomon, Jimmy Frazier and Aaron Salgado all Head Coach Mike Maggiore was going to do was pound the ball and he did it all they way to a second consecutive CIF Championship.

West Covina Wins Shootout

(El Monte) – West Covina beat Northview 30-18 to win the SGV Shootout at Arroyo Saturday. The Bulldogs, not traditionally a passing team, knocked off Monrovia in the semi finals before dispatching of Northview. Monrovia beat Whittier Christian in the consolation game.

Bonita Air Assault

(La Verne) -The Bonita Air Assualt conlcuded Saturday with Upland knocking off Valencia to win the two-day Tournament. Monrovia, who played without starting quarterback Blake Heyworth and reciever Mason Bryant on Friday, had both players back on Saturday and had a lead on Upland earlier in the day before falling late in the contest.

Five Fire Away at Arroyo

(El Monte) – Five teams gathered late Thursday afternoon at Arroyo to fire the ball around. Azusa, Gladstone, Schurr and Northview all joined the the host Knights to get in some June work.

(El Monte) – Alhambra, Bell Gardens and Rosemead joined Arroyo Saturday morning to throw the ball around. It’s only April but all four teams already know they have things to work out before September.

Rivera Picks the Poets

(El Monte) – Arroyo quarterback Steven Rivera has committed to play football for Whittier College this year Coach Jim Singiser confirmed Monday.

It looks like they’re out of options. Well I guess there is one. When Arroyo Coach Jim Singiser was asked if he had any other options now that CIF has denied the MVL appeal on the new Division playoff grouping proposals he had one, “Yeah. Get better!” he said.
